Small Group Photo Walks

Small Group Photography Walks
$85.00

Explore San Francisco while developing your photographic eye. Each small-group walk begins with a short, hands-on lesson before we head out to practice composition, framing, light, and visual storytelling in the field. With guided photo challenges and individual feedback along the way, you’ll learn to slow down, look more closely, and make more intentional photographs.

What You’ll Learn

Photography is about more than knowing which buttons to press. These walks are designed to help you become more intentional about what you include in the frame, and why.

Through demonstrations, guided practice, and individual feedback, you’ll explore:

  • Composition and framing

  • Finding strong subjects in everyday environments

  • Using foreground, background, and layers to create depth

  • Working with lines, shapes, patterns, and negative space

  • Changing your perspective and point of view

  • Recognizing and working with available light

  • Making more thoughtful choices before pressing the shutter

  • Using your camera’s essential settings with greater confidence

The emphasis is on learning to see differently and developing skills you can continue using wherever you photograph.

Session Structure

Each photography walk combines a short lesson with plenty of time to explore, experiment, and photograph.

Meet + Camera Check-In
We’ll start by getting acquainted and making sure everyone feels comfortable with their camera. I can help you locate essential controls and answer questions before we head out.

Mini Lesson
We’ll introduce the creative focus for the day through examples and a few simple techniques to try during the walk.

Guided Photo Walk
We’ll explore together, stopping at different locations to photograph, experiment, and complete creative challenges. I’ll circulate throughout the group to offer individual guidance and feedback.

Share + Reflect
We’ll finish by sharing a few images, discussing discoveries, and thinking about what you might continue experimenting with after the walk.

What’s Included

Your photography walk includes:

  • Approximately 2.5 hours of small-group instruction

  • A short photography lesson and demonstration

  • Help getting familiar with your camera and essential settings

  • Guided photography exercises and creative challenges

  • Individual coaching throughout the walk

  • Opportunities to share images and receive feedback

  • A small group size to allow for personalized instruction

You’ll need to bring: your own digital or film camera, charged batteries, a memory card or film, comfortable walking shoes, and anything else you normally carry while photographing.

Who Should Register

These walks are designed for beginner and developing photographers who want to become more confident and intentional behind the camera.

They’re a great fit if you:

  • Own a camera but aren’t completely comfortable using it

  • Understand some camera basics, but want to make stronger photographs

  • Want to improve your composition and framing

  • Learn best through hands-on experience rather than sitting in a classroom

  • Want individual guidance without committing to a traditional photography course

  • Are looking for a creative way to explore San Francisco

  • Simply want to get out, photograph, and meet other people interested in photography

You don’t need an expensive camera or years of experience. Come with curiosity, a camera you’d like to know better (including your phone camera), and a willingness to experiment.
