Not at all. Individual lessons and small-group photography walks are designed to meet you where you are. Beginners are welcome, as are photographers who already understand the basics and want to strengthen their technical or creative skills.
-
For individual lessons, we’ll work with the camera you have and tailor instruction to your equipment, experience, and goals.
Small-group walks are designed primarily for photographers using digital or film cameras, including DSLR and mirrorless cameras. However, phone cameras are welcome too. Many of the concepts we explore—composition, framing, perspective, light, and visual storytelling—apply regardless of the camera you use.
If you’re unsure whether your camera is appropriate, feel free to reach out before booking.

Yes. While small-group walks are designed with traditional cameras in mind, you’re welcome to participate with a phone camera. The emphasis is on learning to see, compose, and make more intentional photographs—not on owning a particular piece of equipment.
Keep in mind that some technical instructions involving aperture, shutter speed, lenses, or other camera controls may not apply in the same way to a phone.
-
That’s a great reason to join. Small-group walks begin with time to get familiar with your camera and locate the essential controls we’ll use. You’ll also receive individual guidance throughout the walk.
If you’d like more focused help learning your camera from the ground up, an individual lesson may be an even better place to start.
-
Individual lessons are completely tailored to you. We can focus on learning your camera, understanding exposure, improving composition, exploring a particular technique, developing a project, or working toward your own creative goals.
Small-group walks combine instruction with exploration. You’ll learn alongside other photographers, complete creative challenges, receive individual feedback, and put new ideas into practice while photographing on location.
-
Individual lessons are available for photographers of all ages and experience levels. They’re especially helpful if you have specific goals, want focused help with your camera, prefer one-on-one instruction, or want to progress at your own pace.
-
Walks are intentionally limited to a maximum of six photographers. Keeping groups small allows everyone to receive individual guidance and feedback while still enjoying the experience of photographing alongside others.
-
Most walks are approximately 2.5 hours. We’ll begin with a short lesson and camera check-in before heading out for guided photography, creative challenges, and individual coaching.
-
We’ll be exploring on foot, but the emphasis is on photographing rather than covering a lot of distance. We’ll stop frequently to observe, discuss, experiment, and make photographs. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
-
